history

once a cornerstone of the community, st.elizabeth’s church (our namesake) has watched over the corner of carter and mills for over a hundred years of norwood’s history. it was aquired from the catholic church in 1995 by a fledgling church community called vineyard central. this historic space has been used by its current owner for worship services on and off since 1995, but there has been a desire expressed to see the building given back to the community. some believe it is destined to once again become the cultural center of the neighborhood.

a small collection of concerned folk have been developing a vision that began in the st.elizabeth art studios and has been incubating for years: the classroom spaces at the back of the building have been rented as artist studios; a regional network of artists including many both inside and outside of vineyard central have hosted a stream of fascinating events in the space; there have been gallery shows, benefit concerts, after-school programs, poetry readings, and more. in 2007, the st.elizabeth arts foundation joined the fun with a strong focus on youth in the arts.
